About SonikSan

The active ingredient in SonikSan tablets is Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC). When the tablets are dissolved in water, their chlorine content mixes with the water to release hypochlorous acid (HOCI), one of the most powerful biocides. Hypochlorous acid is similar to the water molecule so it easily breaks down the cellular walls of pathogens by oxidization. This destroys the nucleus of cells, effectively completing the disinfection process. 

There is a key difference between hypochlorous acid released from NaDCC and sodium hypochlorite found in bleach solutions. Unlike sodium hypochlorite, NaDCC initially releases just 50% of its total chlorine content as Free Available Chlorine (FAC), the disinfecting agent. In addition to hypochlorous acid, the mixing of NaDCC with water produces monosodiumcyanurate (NaOCl). As the solution is used, these two ingredients are maintained in a 50/50 ratio meaning more chlorine is released as disinfecting takes place. Unlike sodium hypochlorite which discharges all its chlorine content at once and does not replenish, NaDCC tablets provide a longer-lasting, more powerful disinfectant than bleach.
